my top four mid-high end mascaras

When it comes to mascara, the most important thing to remember is that you're not necessarily looking for the best formula, but in fact, the best wand shape. The shape of the mascara wand makes all the difference. With so many types of mascara currently on the market, it can be a bit confusing if you don’t know what you’re looking for. Mascara can help frame the eyes and complete a makeup look. Whether you need lengthening, thickening, curling or volumizing, there is something on the market for everyone.

Today I’ll be focusing on my top four mid-to-high end mascara. I generally prefer mascaras that will lengthen, lift and curl my lashes, so a few of the mascaras I’ll be talking about have a similar wand shape. I have naturally full lashes so any volumizing that happens is just a bonus. I have tried and tested an incredible amount of mascara during my lifetime so I can honestly say my eyes know what they want and what they like.

Dior Diorshow Mascara (0.33 oz, $34 cdn)
This has a conditioning formula and an oversized wand that lifts, lengthens and volumizes each individual lash. This is my every day mascara as it provides a natural yet complete look with just one sweep across. This is a buildable mascara as well, so when you're getting ready for a night out, layer this onto lashes a few times to create an incredibly dramatic look (false lashes quality).

This mascara has the most stunning package ever and the formula comes in a few different colours. I always pick this up in the black shade but the blue looks pretty amazing too. The wand is slighty narrower than the Dior but provides just as much impact. If you’re looking for maximum volume, this is the mascara for you.

This is the perfect everyday natural mascara. From separating lashes to lengthening them, this mascara literally does it all. This mascara also comes in a travel size tube that is perfect to test out or to use while on vacation. This long lasting formula doesn’t smudge either so don’t worry about this not being waterproof.

Lancome Hypnose Doll Lashes Mascara ($32 cdn)
A cone shaped wand to help widen and lift your lashes. The formula is lovely and keeps lashes looking natural, curly and separated. If you’re a perfectionist, this wand shape will instantly become your favourite as the narrow tip provides extra precision.

  1. I LOVE YSL mascaras! And they have the most luxurious packaging! :) I don't splurge on mascaras that often though. I personally love Covergirl lash blast and clump crusher mascaras. They work really well on Asian lashes.

  2. I have a love/hate relationship with They're Real. It's the first high end mascara that I purchased and it was absolute crap, I actually cried when I took it home and it turned out to be rubbish. I was so disappointed! And then I got a sample size and it was brilliant! No idea what on earth happened. :-(

I have a ton of mascara to go through now, all drugstore though but once that's done, I'll be picking up a few high ends. :-)
