boscia sake balm | in review

Boscia skincare is a botanically-based line that is free of all chemical preservatives and until recently, had been flying under my radar. The first product I decided to try from this line was their Sake Balm (1.75 oz, $58 cdn) since I wanted a morning moisturizer that would be able to both hydrate and brighten my skin. If you want to read up on my favourite overnight moisturizer, click here.

This gel-textured moisturizer is an innovative formula enriched with sake. It is formulated to make the “skin instantly bounce back from dullness and dryness” and to “provide immediate moisturizing, brightening and firming benefits-causing the skin to visibly bounce back with hydration and luminosity”. It also aims to reduce the look of wrinkles and to improve skin texture.

Packaging
The packaging has a frosted glass container that is actually quite lovely. It definitely looks and feels like good quality but not travel friendly due to the size and weight of the bottle.

Product
The consistency of this gel moisturizer is similar to jello – dense and bouncy. I was initially excited to try this product out because of how dense the gel was in the bottle. The product itself is lightweight and hydrating, however, I haven’t noticed a huge difference when it comes to brightening. If you have combination skin, I would definitely suggest you try this moisturizer out as it doesn’t make my t-zone oily or cause dry patches on any other part of my face. I apply my Chanel multi use illuminator quickly after I apply this gel to my skin and before my makeup. It gives me a wonderful illumination and keeps my skin looking hydrated and healthy.
There have been some comments floating around about a burning sensation on skin, however, I haven’t felt anything like that and I have been using this product daily for quite some time now. If you have sensitive skin, I would advise you to sample before purchase or to look for an alternate option in case this may happen to you.
This unique texture of this gel takes some getting used to. The first few times I dipped my fingers into the container, I had trouble scooping out the product. Please make sure your hands are clean as you have to go deep to pull the product out! I wish there was a small scoop included in the box to make this more sanitary and easier to use.

Verdict
If your skin needs hydration and you’re in the market for a botanical based product, you should give this product a chance. Although I haven’t seen much change in terms of skin brightening, I do love the lightweight, quick absorbing gel that keeps my skin moisturized throughout the day.

Repurchase?
Definitely. I picked this up with skin hydration in mind, and it does this extremely well.

Have you tried anything from Boscia Skincare? What has been your favourite product?

  1. I haven't tried Boscia so far, but it seems like a brand to look in to. One of the many...

  2. This sounds interesting, I don't really care for brightening effect, my main concern is hydration. Do you think this would be enough for a dry, mature skin? Also, I use a cotton bud to scoop out products if they don't come with a spatula. :-)

    1. I would say so -with the consistency it has, I feel it would apply and absorb well on all ages. I was actually telling my mom about this product and she's going to try it out as well! :)

Ahh a cotton bud! Such a good idea! Thank you, haha.
