egg pore blackhead steam balm review | tony moly

I have the k-beauty bug. I have been obsessing over Korean skincare the past several months and after finding the Tony Moly Egg Pore Blackhead Steam Balm (1.06 oz, $23 cdn), it seems there is no end to my obsession. With the exception of my Boscia Sake Balm, all of my skincare products are made in Korea. My half asian skin is thanking me by giving me the brightest and most hydrated skin I have ever had; and since using the blackhead steam balm, my pores have had the deep cleaning they’ve always wanted.

The Egg Pore Blackhead Steam Balm is a self-heating balm that targets blackheads while removing dirt and oil from pores. This product is infused with vitamin E, eggshell powder and egg yolk extract to help hydrate the skin, leaving skin feeling extremely soft.

Packaging
At first glance, the packaging looks gimmicky and far from the luxurious packaging I tend to lust after. However, this oversized plastic egg container is so cute, even my husband thinks so! There is a lot of wasted space as the lid is hollow and takes up about 2/3 of the entire bottle.  A yellow yolk lid insert prevents the balm from touching the lid.

Product
The Asian beauty community tends to criticize Tony Moly for being an “all for show” brand. Their products are undeniably adorable, but does the product actually work? With an ingredient list that includes charcoal powder, egg yolk extract, eggshell powder and sea salt, this product sure seems promising. The gel like consistency has a sweet fragrance and a gritty texture.
I applied a small amount onto my problem area (around the nose) for about 3-5 minutes, waiting for the self-heating to kick in. It eventually kicks in, but ever so slightly. Once fully lathered, the gel consistency changes into a thin, white creamy layer that can be gently rinsed away using lukewarm water. I have been using this product 3 times a week for several weeks now and absolutely love how soft it makes my nose feel. Even after a couple days of not using it, my nose still remains incredibly soft and my pores visibly smaller. Blackhead removal took longer to notice; there won’t be an immediate difference, but the more consistent you are and the longer you use the product, the better the outcome. For best results, I recommend using the balm on clean, dry skin.

Verdict
Being the first Tony Moly product I’ve ever tried, I am quite happy with the results. As I don’t have too many problems with blackheads, this is more of a “nice to have” product for me. I will continue to use this a few times a week as I love how soft it makes my skin feel. The steam balm is such a unique product and is definitely worth a try!

Repurchase?
Yes – although a nice to have product, I’m a sucker for soft, hydrated skin.
*If you live close to Toronto, Canada, check out the Tony Moly store at Pacific Mall – they have these steam balms in stock and at a cheaper price point.

  2. I have yet to try anything from Tony Moly, so far the only Asian brands that I've only tried are THEFACESHOP, Laniege , Shiseido, Shu Uemura. I have seen Tony Moly sold in Malaysia but they are not the cheapest so I never bought anything for myself. Are you planning to try more from them?

  7. I've only tried a lip product of theirs! It was nice! This sounds lovely and it seems to work like a dream. I have dry/sensitive skin, so I don't do well with brightening products, but I'll be sure to share this with my friends.
