rainforest of the sea quench lip rescue review | tarte cosmetics

There is an unspoken rule that lips need just as much TLC as your skin. There is nothing attractive about dry, cracked lips. Cold weather essentials always include some sort of lip scrub and balm duo. Luckily for us, there is a new lip rescue in town - the Rainforest of the Sea Quench Lip Rescue* ($23 cdn, 0.10 oz) by Tarte. This is part of Tarte's summer 2016 collection exclusively at Sephora. Tarte cosmetics have a long standing reputation as being a healthy, eco-friendly brand with the cutest packaging ever. In fact, it was the lip rescue tube that made me click the "add to cart" button!

The lip rescue is a moisturizing balm that saves lips from signs of aging while claiming to deliver intense hydration. It comes in four sheer tints; opal, nude, rose and berry. This balm helps restore lips' softness, moisture and elasticity with a powerful blend of essential oils and vitamin rich antioxidants. This product is vegan friendly and dermatologist tested.

Packaging
As mentioned, the packaging was what initially lured my into this purchase. It was so difficult not to buy all the tinted balms, but I showed restraint and chose the balm in the nude tint. The tube is surprisingly sturdy for a tube made of thick cardboard. The interior does have plastic and a snap closure. I would have preferred an alternate material to the cardboard, however, it isn't a game changer for me.

Product
I can't even begin to explain my reaction when I first swiped this balm across my lips. I was super impressed at how easy it absorbed and how smooth it felt. It was incredible. There was an instant menthol scent and my lips were ultra dewy. I haven't had a lip product wow me the way this one did in a long time (we're talking years). The tint is very sheer and the nude matches my lip colour perfectly (which is what I was looking for). The product lasts a few hours when applied before the glossy shine begins to fade.

Verdict
This is the first lip product that I can truly say impressed me on my first try. I would be as bold to say that I prefer this over any other lip treatment currently on the market (although Fresh Lip Treatment** is a narrow second). It gives instant relief to dry, cracked lips by providing long lasting hydration with a menthol tingle. This works on top of lipsticks as well, giving off that dewy look similar to lip glosses. Filled with algae, marine flower extracts and coconut oil, this product is everything your lips need to overcome the dry cold days.

Repurchase?
In a heart beat - once I pick up the other three tints!

This lip balm will be released in stores March 14th, 2016. Currently available online.

  1. I usually stay away from these sheer balms, as I feel they are a waste of money and I´d rather stick to a plain lip balm, but the packaging is really too cute.

  5. I know I am the odd one out because I have never been a fan of tinted lip balm, I find them to dry out my lips terribly. That being said, I have never tried the one from Fresh or this one from Tarte, maybe they would be different? I'll keep both in mind the next time I snoop around Sephora.com. :-P

    1. You should definitely check them out during a Sephora trip! This one especially is on the polar spectrum of dryness. It is one of the most moisturizing balms I have currently!!
